I’m Joe Hill, a composer, performing musician and sound artist based in Bristol, UK. I pride myself on crafting emotive and interesting music which conjur unique connotations within the mind of the listener. I love music because of how powerful it is as a universal language. Using music, I try to speak deeply to people from differing contexts.

Composing
I compose for visual media, theatre, installation and live performance. Recent works include an orchestral romantic waltz for a surreal short film, ambient and morphing drone soundscapes for a theatre production and a prepared piano piece for an installation exploring ocean pollution.

Performing
Performing and improvising has been a huge passion of mine, which has led me to playing in numerous bands and ensembles on electric bass, piano and synthesisers all across the UK. Credits include Mercy’s Cartel, Piin, Shifty Lao, Regime, New Palace Talkies, Luma and many more. I am adept with using digital technology live, being able to explore musical sounds far beyond the remit of acoustic instruments.

Interdisciplinary Art
I also design and build interactive work which fuses my musical skills with a love for visual art. My craft produces interesting juxtapositions and I use my talent to explore social issues of mental health and accessibility for young people. My work also pays homage to the natural world, with values of sustainability and just solutions to the climate crisis sitting at the root.
